Day Opportunites in Market Rasen

Our Day Opportunites Centre in Market Rasen brings a bright new feel to services for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and/or mental health issues.

We offer social contact and activities for those wanting to meet new friends and learn new skills and promote their independence.

We give carers a range of opportunities to have a break from their caring role, daytime evenings, weekends and supported hollidays

FocusAbility aims to give people the skills they need to live as independently as possible. We have dedicated staff that are trained in supporting people to get results and make things happen. Our programmes are built around peoples' choices to enable individuals to get more of what they want from their time with us.

FocusAbility's aim is to develop skills, understanding and knowledge. We will support you to find opportunities for you to develop the interests and skills that will enable you to live more independently. We will work together to identify a specific interest or skill that you may wish to practice or develop further . What skill you choose is up to you, it may be just about anything including:

  • Computers
  • The Internet
  • Using e-mail
  • Photography
  • Using photography and digital software

Although we have considerable skills in this area, technology is not the only skill we may be able to help you with.

Practical skills such as:
  • Running your own home
  • Gardening
  • DIY
  • Painting and decorating
  • Cooking
  • Monetary Skills

These skills are not only useful in themselves, but can also be used to create feelings of involvement and ownership.
The focus of this area of work is to devise a project that you or the person you care for wants to undertake.

For example: You want to decorate your bedroom.

  • Firstly you need to plan what you would like to do.
  • Then you need to prepare a shopping list of the items you will need.
  • Then you will need to plan to do the shopping with us or someone else.
  • Once you have all the materials and tools you will need to plan to begin the work.
  • The room or area will need to be cleared, you may need help with this task.
  • The next part will be to prepare the room, undertake any repair tasks, filling in any holes and sanding down the paint work.
  • The ceiling may need painting or papering.
  • The walls will need to be painted or papered.
  • The furnishings and carpets would then need to be put back in place.

The process need not involve all the steps but the intention is that you will have as much imput into the decisions and the work undertaken as possible but with the support you need. Or you may just want support to go shopping for a new set of bedding, but remember shopping for new things should involve choices, and the choices or decisions should be made by the most important person, YOU!
